As part of Volunteers Week 2019, we’re putting up profiles of some of our volunteers. We’ve featured Annalie, Angela, Simon and Shyam, Rona and George already, but let’s hear from Chris, who has been helping with our mailouts for a couple of years.
Chris: I’ve been volunteering with Barnet Mencap for a long time. I was on the reception desk for a bit with Teresa when she worked for Barnet Mencap. Since then I’ve mainly helped with the COPs mailouts. I’ve probably done this for a couple of years, with Nicola. I’ve also been involved with the Have Your Say group, where we’ve attended meetings. I went to a meeting with them a few weeks ago at the Greek Cypriot Centre on benefits.
I’d like to continue helping with the mailouts and also attending meetings.
Outside of volunteering, I really enjoy pottery sessions at St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre. I’ve been doing these for about 3 years. We get to keep the pottery when it’s finished. I also go to Artbox on Caledonian Road, where my work is in an exhibition at the moment. I love doing pottery and art.
I like socialising with my friends. We meet up at different places and go to restaurants and things. I have been a member of the COPs project for a long time. I like the bowling. I have made friends, and seen lots of people who went to my school. At the moment, I’m looking forward to going on holiday to Center Parcs with Sherrick House!
