As part of Volunteers Week 2019, we’re putting up profiles of some of our volunteers. We’ve featured Annalie, Angela, Simon and Shyam and Rona already, but let’s hear from George, who has been volunteering with us on and off for twelve years.
George: I first started coming to Barnet Mencap activities in 2002, but started volunteering in 2007 on reception and in the office. I helped with mailouts and photocopying as well as on the front desk. I volunteered for a few years, then took a break, and came back in about 2013/2014. I like working in the office with the other staff and meeting and talking to clients.
I used to volunteer for Disability Action in the Borough of Barnet doing similar things like answering the phones and filing. I also used to work at a solicitor’s as a paid job. I’d like to have a paid job again as I have quite a bit of experience now.
Outside of work, I enjoy exercising – swimming and going to the gym. I’m also interested in politics, and enjoy going to church, watching television and going to the pub.
