As part of Volunteers Week 2019, we’re putting up profiles of some of our volunteers. We’ve already featured Annalie, Angela, and Simon and Shyam already, but let’s hear from Rona, who has been volunteering since last summer.
Rona: I come in to Barnet Mencap every Thursday, unless I’m away. I help stamp and label envelopes and other things like helping Hilary. I have helped her for the last two weeks and made signs for the office. I love it at Barnet Mencap, I like coming in, I get on very well with the staff. I don’t argue, shot or swear.
I used to work somewhere else – First Rung in Mill Hill – when I was at Hendon College. I did the same sort of work as I do for Barnet Mencap, a well as errands for the staff. I used to like it and got on well with the staff.
On Mondays and Tuesdays I go to Community Focus, where I do media, photography and art. When we finish our work we can take it home. I have support on Wednesdays and then at the weekends I do what I want. I go to visit my brother and go out to parks, museums and exhibitions.
