Peer Engagement Worker:  Learning Disabilities and Autism forensic services in North London

Hours: 2 days, 15 hours per week

Hourly Wage: £12.98 per hour

Location: Barnet Mencap (35 Hendon Lane, N3 1RT), and the North London Forensic Collaborative (4 Winsley Street, W1W 8HF)

Purpose of the role:

Your role will be to speak to and listen to people with a Learning Disability or autism who are currently in a secure forensic ward.

  • Spent time being an inpatient in a secure forensic ward.

Deputy Manager of our Support Work team  

 Salary: £29,151 for 35 hours per week 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Deputy Manager to join our team supporting adults with moderate a learning disability and autistic adults to live independently.  

The role will suit you if you: 

  • have two years’ experience of working with adults with a learning disability and autistic people in a community setting 
  • have the passion to enable people with a learning disability and autistic people to participate fully in decisions that affect their lives 
  • understand the issues faced by people with a learning disability and autistic people living independently and have the skills to meet their practical, social and emotional needs 
  • have a good working knowledge of safeguarding issues 
  • have experience of managing and supervising staff 
  • have excellent communication skills 
  • are working towards (or would like to work towards) a management diploma/NVQ 

 We know work/life balance is incredibly important, as well as job satisfaction. We offer 24 days of annual leave per year (plus Bank Holidays), as well as a TOIL system which allows our staff to work more flexibly. Flexibility is very important, and although face to face support can’t be done from home, there will be opportunities to work from home and work different working patterns when agreed by the manager.

Sessional Project Workers - 'As and When'

£13.15 per hour (plus accrued holiday*)

Working with adults/ young people/ children with a Learning Disability and/or Autism

We are looking for people who have a few hours or more a week to spare and are able to work with individuals or groups on an occasional or regular basis. This could be in the community for one of our leisure projects, or supporting an individual.

The sessions, normally between 1 and 4 hours long, could take place in the day, morning, evening and/or at the weekend or during school holidays.

You may be working alone or alongside other workers and volunteers.

You will:

  • be highly motivated and have a genuine interest in working with people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • have good communication skills and the ability to keep written records
  • be able to accept responsibility for either groups or individual service users and, in some cases, supporting volunteers

* On top of the £11.95 wage for sessional work, all of our sessional workers also receive accrued holiday hours, which works out at around 12% of their hours worked, topped up to the nearest 15 minutes. For example, if somebody worked 10 hours, they would also be paid for 1.25 hours of accrued holiday.
