free service for autistic adults in Barnet.

Barnet Mencap’s Autism Hub is a free service for adults in Barnet who are, or suspect they may be, autistic. Whilst all of our other services in Barnet Mencap are for people who have a learning disability, the Autism Hub is for people who don’t also have a learning disability.

What is Autism?

Autism is a lifelong condition. Autism is sometimes referred to as a spectrum, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
There are three common features of autism, which might affect the way a person:
interacts with others in a social situation
is able to communicate with others
experiences the world around them.
Autism is not a learning disability, but around half of autistic people may also have a learning disability, which will affect the level of support they need in their life.

About Autism Hub

The Autism Hub is a community space and support centre led by and for people on the autism spectrum. We are a community of more than 800 people.

How The Space Looks Like?

Autism Hub is a calm, quiet space created by an autistic person for autistic people. This is your space to relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, and take part in workshops or social activities at your own pace. You can come here to unwind, connect, or simply be in a welcoming environment designed with your comfort in mind. We are open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am – 5 pm.

Quiet and Calm Environment

Designed to reduce sensory overload.

Sensory-friendly

Lighting, sound, and layout are mindful of sensory sensitivities.

Flexible participation

Join workshops or social activities at your own pace.

Community Connection

Meet others who understand and share similar experiences.

Meet The Team

All of our staff have lived experience of neurodiversity.
Many are autistic, have ADHD, support autistic family members — or all three.
That lived experience gives the Hub authenticity. Staff and members can relate to each other, and communication differences are less of a barrier.

Our Ethos

We support people to explore their identity, embrace their needs, and empower themselves as they navigate life with neurodivergence.

Just like our brains, this journey is not linear.

You might be wondering “Is diagnosis right for me?” one day, and the next you’re diving into “What does it actually mean to be autistic?”
