How you can help
Support from the community plays a vital role in helping Barnet Mencap make a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities and/or autism and their families across Barnet. There are many ways you can get involved from taking part in an event, volunteering or fundraising.
Fundraising for us is a great way to bring together existing friends and family, make new friends, learn new skills and have fun whiles making a real difference. There are many different forms of fundraising meaning whether you are an individual, company or a group there will be something for you.
Community fundraising is a fantastic way to raise awareness about learning disability and the work Barnet Mencap carries out whilst raising money. Throughout the year there are many ways you can get involved with or hold community fundraising activities such as:
- Tin Collections
- Bag packing/ supermarket collections
- Hold a coffee morning
- Come along to one of our fundraisers (quiz nights, family fun days)
- Place a collection box in a local shop or pub
To find out about upcoming community fundraising events see our events page.
Taking part in sponsored activities, such as swimming, running, or even a sky dive is a great way of raising money. That's why we've also set up a fundraising account with JustGiving, which enables our supporters (i.e. people like you) to set up their own fundraising page for Barnet Mencap from which they can advertise the event that they are taking part in, and get people to donate. If you are taking part in an event and would like to raise money for us just head to our JustGiving page and click on 'Fundraise for us'.
Whatever you decide to do, don't forget to use social media to tell people about your event, keep them updated on your progress and remind them to sponsor you.
Amy is taking part in a 10k run to raise money for Barnet Mencap. To support her - and us - head to her JustGiving page here.
We love receiving your stories and photos of your fundraising activities, so keep them coming in.
Please Note: We are always so grateful when people take time out of their own lives to raise money for us. However, if we feel that an event or page is inappropriate in that it portrays Barnet Mencap, our staff or our users in a negative way, we have the right to remove the page.
