Employment

Local support with employment for adults with learning disabilities and adults with autism as part of our Bright Futures Service.

The Bright Futures Employment project is a specialist programme providing people with a chance to get a job.

Support provided includes:

  • Building pre-employment skills and personal development
  • Support to increase confidence and motivation
  • One-to-one in-work support via job coaching
  • Opportunities, employment and training based on career goals

The Employment project is part of Barnet Mencap's Bright Futures contract but is run by Royal Mencap. This is based just next door to the Barnet Mencap office in Finchley Central.

If you want to meet new friends, Barnet Mencap's Community Opportunities Project may be for you. They meet regularly for bowling, meals out, pub visits and more. For more information, please see the Leisure and Learning page.

Age UK Barnet  - Age UK Barnet is a voluntary organisation existing to serve and promote the interests of all older citizens of the London Borough of Barnet, from all walks of life and ethnic communities.

Alzheimer's Society - Alzheimer's Society is a membership organisation, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The local branch of the Alzheimer’s Society has a family support worker who provides support to families and facilitates two monthly support groups. All carers of people with dementia are welcome.

Barnet Carers Centre  - Barnet Carers Centre was established in February 1996 as part of the network of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The Centre offers advice, information, emotional and practical support for all informal carers who live or work in the London Borough of Barnet.

Inclusion Barnet  – Inclusion Barnet is a peer-led organisation that promotes accessibility for disabled people by breaking down barriers to employment and social inclusion.

CommUNITY Barnet  - Formerly named Barnet Voluntary Service Council, CommUNITY Barnet is a voluntary organisation which was set up in 1979 to support, promote and develop voluntary and community action in the London Borough of Barnet.

Friend in Need  - A voluntary organisation providing a range of services for older people, disabled people and their carers living in the East and New Barnet area.

Expect the Best  - A quality checking project that employs people with learning disabilities, other disabilities and carers to speak to people who use support services to find out what they think about the support they get. It is overseen by 6 local Mencaps - Barnet, Brent, Harrow, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, and Kensington & Chelsea. Click here to find out more.

Jewish Care - Jewish Care is the largest health and social care organisation serving the Jewish community in London and the south east of England.

London Borough of Barnet - Provides information about all the services in the borough of Barnet.

Parents' Action Group (PAG) - An independent group which enables members to campaign and support families living in Barnet who have an adult with a learning disability.

Royal Mencap Society  - Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. Everything they do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers.
