Campaign the Cuts!
We recently held a meeting for parents, carers, people with learning disabilities and Barnet Mencap staff to discuss what we can do to campaign against funding cuts, and also to look at what steps we can take to help ourselves through the current situation.
We are very grateful to Caroline Jones from National Mencap, who spoke at the meeting about different ways in which people can campaign and actually make a difference. She also showed some good examples of how people in dire situations in other areas of the country have achieved really positive outcomes through campaigning.
Probably the most moving example came in the form of a video, which had been produced by a parent of a child with learning disabilities in protest of a vital service in their local area being cut. It's a fantastic example of what carers and people with learning disabilities could do, even on a limited budget. You can view the video by clicking on the link below.
