Getting it right
This is a National Mencap campaign that aims to give people with learning disabilities the same healthcare as everyone else. The ‘Death by Indifference’ campaign went a long way in highlighting how people with learning disabilities can be mistreated whilst under NHS care (and you can get a copy of that report here) but unfortunately that has not stopped poor treatment being received by some people with learning disabilities within the NHS.
If 'Death by Indifference' was about highlighting the problems, the new 'Getting it right' campaign is all about making improvements by working together alongside local campaigners, health professionals, GP surgeries and hospitals. National Mencap has also worked with healthcare professionals and Royal Colleges to develop the 'Getting it right charter', which sets out the 9 key activities that all healthcare professionals should be undertaking in order to ensure people with learning disabilities recieve the correct treatment.
