Family Support and Advocacy Service

Supporting parents and carers of children and adults with a learning disability
Our Family Support and Advocacy Service offers independent advice, information and support to parents and carers of children and adults who have a learning disability.
Our Services
- Open Door Project - for parents of 0-5 year olds with any special or additional needs.
- Family Support Service - for parents/carers of school age children and young people (5-19 years).
- Pragati Project - our Asian Families development project
- Specialist Parenting Practitioners - providing one to one support to parents with children or young people with conditions such as ASC and ADHD. For more information, you can view the 'Support for Barnet Parents of Disabled Children' leaflet HERE
We Can Offer:
- The opportunity for you to discuss the needs of your son/daughter.
- Attendance and support at meetings.
- Support when writing letters to the Local Authority or preparing for meetings.
- Help to access services.
- Help with the statementing process for special educational needs.
- Help to access disability benefits.
- Telephone advice and information and /or home visits.
We Also Offer:
- Open Door's weekly drop-in for parents of under 5's, now on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- A fortnightly Saturday club for Asian adults with a learning disability (Ronak)
- Training for parents e.g. parenting training, sexuality workshops, school funding and SEN matters (jointly organised with Parent Partnership)
We work in partnership with:
IPOP, Homestart, Parent Partnership, London Borough of Barnet, Connexions, Barnet Carers Centre, Parents Groups, Community Barnet and others.
