Community Opportunities Project

We do lots of different things during the week and in the evenings and at weekends. If you become a member you will get information every month. If you have any questions you can contact us at:

Springboard Programme

This is a monthly programme of community based events for adults 16 years and older and is part of Barnet Mencap's Community Opportunities Project, known as COPS for short. Most of the places we go to are accessible to wheelchair users.

Restaurant Nights. We go to lots of different restaurants.

The Drop In

This is where the suggestions for things to do are shared and planned. Anyone who is a member is welcome to attend and put forward their ideas.

Over 50's Project

This group is for people aged 50 plus. We visit pubs and restaurants. Go to the cinema and theatre and many other places. We also have a regular drop in. You can either be a COPS member or just join the Older People's project.

Aspergers Social Group

This group is for adults with Aspergers Syndrome. The group meets regularly for a variety of community based social events.

Pub visits - we visit pubs in Finchley, Barnet and Edgware.

Restaurant visits - We have been to a range of different restaurants.

Drop in - We have a weekly Drop in for members to meet up and have a coffee and a chat.

Day Opportunities

We have the following activities on weekdays:-
Monday all day - Living in London at 35 Hendon Lane (Barnet Mencap)
Thursday all day - Drama at the Finchley Youth Theatre

All Day Opportunities Programme activities are free of charge at the moment.

How do I join?

Contact Shelley or Drew at the Barnet Mencap office on 020 8349 3842. She will arrange for someone to meet you and talk about COPS. This could be at your home or at the Barnet Mencap office. If you decide to join you take or send the completed application form and the payment to the office. All cheques or postal orders are payable to: Barnet Mencap. Do not send cash through the post. A membership card and details of activities will be sent to you. Then you will receive details every month.
