Asian Project
Barnet Mencap's Asian Project is a response to the needs of Asian people with learning disabilities and their families.
The Project offers:
- Advice/information on a variety of subjects
- Advocacy
- Outreach/home visits
- Welfare benefits
- Leisure opportunities/support groups
- Liaison with Community, Education and Health Service.
Social gatherings are arranged for people with learning disabilities along with regular coffee mornings for carers.
The Asian Project comes within Barnet Mencap's Family Support service and it aims to identify and provide to the Asian Community:
- Linguistic/cultural support to those with a learning disability and their families/carers.
- An Outreach Service for families needing cultural and linguistic support.
- Home visits to new families are also provided.
- Running of Ronak Club on alternate Saturday mornings for Young Asians and Asian people with a learning disability:
Offering structed, life-learning skills in comfortable and cultural settings.
Organised and run by a club leader along with two session workers and volunteers.
Ronak Club activities include:
- Art
- Craft
- Games
- Exercise
- Dance
- Music
- Cultural Activities
- Competitions
